Welcome to the Homepage of the Adrian (Abbots Langley) Extended
Schools Consortium
Extended Schools are a cluster of schools working
together to offer a range of services and activities beyond the
school day in order to help meet the needs of the children, families
and the wider community.
It is not necessary for all activities to take place at every
school. Parents and children may be able to visit a neighbouring
school to participate in the activities on offer.
External partners and providers will also be working with schools
to provide these services - for example the district council, the
local college of further education, private and voluntary organisations.
The 5 aims of Extended Schools (what the government calls the
'the core offer') are:
- A Safe Place to Be - affordable childcare before and after
the school day and during the holidays.
- Varied Menu of Activity - ranging from
homework clubs and study support to sport, music and special
interest clubs.
- Support for Parents - including supportive
parenting programmes and family learning.
- Community Access - access to adult learning
programmes.
- Swift and Easy Access - to support families
and children when they need additional help and services from
other agencies - for
example, speech therapists, counselling, family support, etc.
The government is hoping that the majority of schools will be
offering the full core offer by 2010. To be classified as being
'fully core'
schools will need to be offering these services where there is
a demand. It is therefore important that you let us know what you
would like your Extended Schools to be offering, in order that
we can
provide
a
quality service
which will meet the needs of our local community.
