What was an Extended School?

Extended schools were schools in your area that worked together to help children and young people to achieve their potential and increase motivation and self esteem.

How did they work together?

A cluster of schools came together in what was known in Hertfordshire as a 'consortium'. There were 38 consortia in Hertfordshire involving over 500 schools. Extended schools worked in partnership to provide access to a range of services for children and families to improve their achievement and life chances.

Extended schools were linked directly to 'Every Child Matters' and drew on the support, knowledge and expertise of a wide range of professionals from different agencies and services.
