Child & Parent Support Workers
The Government wants to make this country the best in the world for children and young people to grow up in. The Department of Children Schools and Families is going to achieve this by putting the needs of families, children and young people at the centre of everything it does. One of the initiatives recommended is the engagement of Parent Support Workers (PSW’s) to improve contact with parents and children through extended schools.
The emphasis for PSW’s is on helping parents to engage with their children’s learning by offering support and access to information where needed. This will include information sessions around school transition, signposting to services, parenting groups and family learning.

Counselling
The Alban Way is currently developing a Counselling Service within all schools to support the services already in operation.
Integrated Practice (CAF)
Integrated Practice, including the Common Assessment Framework (CAF), is a key part of delivering frontline services that are integrated and focused around the needs of children and young people. The CAF is a standardised approach to conducting an assessment of a child's additional needs and deciding how those needs should be met. It can be used by practitioners across children's services in England.
The CAF will promote more effective, earlier identification of additional needs, particularly in universal services. It is intended to provide a simple process for a holistic assessment of a child's needs and strengths, taking account of the role of parents, carers and environmental factors on their development.
Practitioners will then be better placed to agree, with the child and family, about what support is appropriate. The CAF will also help to improve integrated working by promoting co-ordinated service provision.
Common Assessment Framework - Every Child Matters
The roll out of the Common Assessment Framework within the Dacorum District is at a very early stage, as it is within the whole of the county. Please keep referring to this website for more details as they will be posted as the role out of the CAF gathers momentum.

The schemes are based in local schools and provide play opportunities for over 200 young people. The schemes run during the Easter, Christmas and Summer school holidays in Dacorum, St. Albans/Harpenden and Welwyn Garden City/Hatfield Areas.
We also run a monthly Saturday Club in Hemel Hempstead and St. Albans. This group is designed for children who are 8 years – 18 years.
The play scheme teams work to provide a varied and interesting programme that is implemented by staff and volunteers.
On each site the scheme has access to basic school facilities but has its own toys and equipment.
