Swan Youth CentreThe Swan Youth Centre

The Swan Youth Centre offers positive activities for young people ages 12 - 18 years in a safe, friendly, alcohol and drug free environment.

In addition to our regular programme of activities, we hold one off sessions and trips out organised in consultation with our members. These include 5-a-side football competitions, pool competitions, drugs awareness training, ice skating to Somerset House, trips to Brighton and Thorpe park as well as ukulele workshops. The Centre can also be hired out for private parties for under 16’s, and to local community groups.

The Skate Park

The Swan Youth Centre runs regular events at the Berkhamsted skate park with the help of ‘The Swan Skaters’. This is a group of keen young people who are passionate about skateboarding and want to help manage and maintain the skate park for the use of all local young people.

They meet on a monthly basis and help plan and deliver free skate coaching sessions in the holidays for children from 8 - 14 years. The Swan Skaters pass on their skills and knowledge and this also helps break down the barriers between the different age groups that attend the park.

The group were awarded ‘The Berkhamsted Rotary Clubs Centenary Civic Award 2009’ for contributions to their community.

Berkhamsted Youth Town CouncilBerkhamsted Youth Town Council

The Youth Council are based at the Swan and are a voice for all young people in Berkhamsted and the surrounding villages. Members attend local schools and have been elected by their peers. They make sure young people’s voices are heard in many aspects of their community life. They carry out fundraising events to fund activities for other young people, and were very involved in campaining for the new skate park in canal fields.

Berkhamsted Youth Town Council runs monthly gig nights at the Swan Youth Centre for local bands, providing them with a great opportunity to perform to a live audience. All the money the Youth Council raises from these nights is used to provide other activities for young people.
