Growing Success
A team from Tesco’s head office in Welwyn Garden City joined the students and staff at Hailey Hall School on 21 January to complete a groundwork project set up by ‘Get Connected’ who are based in Ware.
‘Get Connected’, managed by Nicci Stratham, is the social corporate arm of the Community and Volunteer Service who arrange team building for companies.
The project involved the construction and groundwork of an allotment on Hailey Hall’s site where the students can grow their own vegetables that they can then use in school or sell to the local community.
Jon Ascot, assistant head teacher at Hailey Hall who designed the allotment commented, “This is the first of three growing projects here at the school. We are planning a sensory garden and the development of our woodland area too. The day has proved to be a huge success, engaging both the students and the staff. We would like to thank the team from Tesco for taking the time to come over and help, they have all worked extremely hard.”
Mellissa Sharland, Operations Manager for Tesco said, “ At Tesco we are trying hard to do more voluntary work within the community. This project has been just the beginning. We hope to come back soon to check on the progress that the students would have made.”
