What is an extended school?
Fleetville Junior School is the hub school for North East St Albans Extended Schools Consortium and our consortium is known as Nexus. There are 17 schools in the consortium working together with an ever increasing list of partners, local and community groups and providers to offer services in North East St Albans.
What services and activities should be offered and when?
The Government has set out a ‘core offer’ of extended services that it wants all children and their families to be able to access through schools by 2010. Below is a description of what each service or activity delivers.

CHILDCARE - Affordable childcare before and after the school day and during the holidays

VARIED MENU OF ACTIVITIES - for young people – ranging from homework clubs and study support to sport, music and special interest clubs

SUPPORT FOR PARENTS – including supportive parenting programmes and family learning sessions

COMMUNITY ACCESS to school facilities through after school clubs and adult learning programmes

SPECIALIST SUPPORT FOR CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE – swift and easy referral to services such as speech therapy, family support and counselling

Complaints Procedure This policy compliments the Hub School's general complaints policy and meets the statutory requirements and procedures of the Education Act 2002 Section 29 and conforms to the DfES guidance on school complaints procedures (2003d). This policy covers complaints about Extended Schools Activities and services provided directly by the school or Extended Schools Consortium. Third-party providers of Extended school provision have their own complaints policy and procedures. Any complaints about third-party providers should be sent to the Head of the particular service or organisation, a swell as to the Head Teacher of the school. Principles and the 5 Stage Complaints Procedure is explained in more detail:
