TANGLE is a powerful dance theatre that celebrates diversity and explores connections based on trust, respect and equality.

The 30 minute performance is followed by a 1 hour inclusive dance workshop led by Suzie Birchwood and the Tangle dancess designed for people with any body shape ability.

In this holiday club the group create their own film to star in. Throughout the week, which focuses on a specific theme each young actor taking part will devise the story and characters for their film. As well as learning about the chosen topic, participants will also take part in drama exercises and games. While at the same time learning the basic skills required to act to camera. Film in a week is a fun, interactive holiday club that culminates in the movie that you create being filmed at the end of the week. Each actor will also receive a final edited DVD copy of their film.

Dance, Circus Skills, Puppet Making, Drama and much, much more….

A 5 day summer project for disabled and non disabled young people aged 10-25years

This summer ActOne ArtsBase will be putting on a 5 day theatre project for 10 – 25 year olds called ‘the Runaway Circus’! All ActOne projects are completly accessible for young people of all abilities, we welcome both disabled and non disabled participants.

Over the course of the week participants will work alongside leading dance and theatre experts to devise a production based on a runaway circus, encompassing dance, circus skills, drama and puppetry. The performers aim is to share with their audiences the importance of healthy eating and healthy living. The characters show the audience how to achieve a healthy lifestyle through the stories they have to tell.

Through participating in the Runaway Circus participants will gain a much enhanced understanding and appreciation of how to stay as healthy as possible whist having fun, learning new skills and gaining confidence!

Dates: Monday 22^nd – Friday 26^th August 2011

• REDBOURN CARERS’ SUPPORT GROUP Meet other people caring for someone with dementia –   Redbourn group meets at 1.30pm in the lounge, New Forge Place, High Street on the third Monday of the month. This group starts in June 2011.

• DEMENTIA CAFÉ, a coffee morning for people with dementia and their carers to come to together. United Reform Church, Homewood Road, St Albans, 2^nd Monday of the month 10 am – 12 noon.

• SINGING FOR THE BRAIN, a weekly singing group in St Albans for people with dementia and their carers to attend together. Please phone 01707 265326 for more information.

• LADY CARERS COFFEE GROUP a monthly group for lady carers at Burston’s Garden centre, on the last Wednesday of the month, meet in the café at 11 am.

• Dementia Support Worker is available to offer advice, and information. She can visit you at home or you can see her in the St Albans office by appointment.

Animal Antics

All About Animals brings children into the amazing animal kingdom! Children learn about diverse, astounding creatures on earth as they experiment with camouflage and get hands-on with wriggly worms and real tooth and claw replicas. Life in the Sea plunges children into the depths of ocean. Children explore different ocean ecosystems classifying creatures from sharks to sponges which gives them a taste of ocean diversity.

Journey into Space

Today we will journey through space in this epic exploration of the solar system. We will fill the space suit of an astronaut and discover what it would be like to live in space. The sun, moon, stars and gravity will all be explored today as we create our own soapy models of the solar system. We will complete the Space day by sending a Mad Science rocket up into the atmosphere.

Energy Burst!

This energetic class explores energy transfer and energy conservation! Children jump and push up to reach their potential. Children will spring into action with poppers, Boinks, and jumping bugs.  We will also catapult into Newton’s three laws of motion! Performing hands-on experiments to help the children learn that objects tend to stay in motion or remain at rest unless met by an unbalanced force. We will be sending crash test dummies flying and yanking a cloth from under dishes (with no breakages)!

Opposites Attract

Make your hand stand on end in this electrifying day! We will explore static electricity and discover why positive charges like negative charges whist having super fun making circuits using our Plasma Ball. Will you be able to stick a balloon to a wall? Using our Mighty Magnets we will determine why some objects attract and objects repel. Discover amazing things that glow bright in the dark and come to light! Probe the properties of light and understand why can we see a rainbow in a puddle?

Funky Forensics

Figure out the science of forensics in this hands-on look at crime scenes. Evidence collection and puzzle making will lead them to understand why forensic scientists like to understand the complete picture before they make decisions. Suspects, schematics, and sleuths… oh my! Connect the dots using science to help solve a crime in this hands-on investigation at the science of sleuthing.

Secret Agent Academy

Look out 007—the Mad Science Spy Academy is in session!  Sharpen your surveillance skills with the science of security! Children discover the science and technology behind locks, surveillance systems, and burglar alarms! Analyse spy tools from metal detectors to spy bugs and much much more ….

Olympic Science

What do footballers, scientists and ballet dancers have in common? Explore how Newton helps us learn why we move the way we do and improve the games we play. Campers experiment to see how Science affects our equipment, movement and technique. Can we stop Eggbert from ending up like humpty dumpty when he does his parachute jump? This day is piled high with fun and games – you won’t know where the day has gone!

Mix it up

Get messy with chemistry! Perform instantaneous experiments in this fast-paced class on split-second reactions that go like mad! We will get ooey and gooey with Mad Science Magic Mud; is it a solid or a liquid? This class also challenges children to branch out into the physical aspect of chemistry. A four layer mixture shakes up the idea of water and solutions. Children pick up concepts of physical mixtures, solutions, and suspensions with sorting activities.

Get Connected

Children check out telecommunication technology and assemble sound wave-making devices. They set-up telephone networks and learn about frequencies on walkie-talkies and cell phones. Discover the Science around Sound! Does sound travel better through a wall or through the air? Children become wrapped up in the world of robotics! Children circulate learning centers to control an automaton through sound, move a robot through a maze, and make a soccer robot score a goal!

Fantastic Flyers

3 2 1……blast off! Study the science of the future as we create and launch our own paper rockets 200ft high! Courtesy of Mr Bernoulli’s laws of flight we can make all sorts of this move through the air! Using our knowledge of forces and aerodynamics, the children will create paper planes to change direction and attempt loop the loops!

To secure a place, you will need to complete our booking form and return it to us with a cheque. Alternatively, you can register online or by phone and pay by debit or credit card. If you need to cancel your child’s place, you will receive a refund providing it is more than 10 days from the course start date.

GENERAL

• Mad Science reserves the right to cancel any holiday club if less than 10 children are registered. In the event of cancellation, we will offer the option of an alternative date/time or a full refund.

• Mad Science reserves the right to exclude any child who is disruptive to the extent that it affects the safe running of the session.

• A confirmation email/letter/text will be sent to you once a booking form and payment has been received.

• Whilst every effort is made to ensure the club runs as advertised, Mad Science reserves the right to change the content of a session or topic without any prior notice.

• Where any child or parent/guardian of a child has a complaint about any aspect of the course, he/she should address the matter immediately in writing to the relevant Branch Manager. Our aim is always to ensure we delivery high quality sessions. When we are aware of the problem, we will endeavour to rectify it immediately. No recompense can be considered for any issue which was not brought to our attention at a time when it was possible to rectify.

• It is essential that incident reports are signed by parents on collection their child.

• We advise against bringing mobile phones because of risk of damage or loss. Parents will be given a number of the camp leader should they need to contact their child.

• The ratio of adults to children is typically 1:8.

• All of our camps are covered by public liability insurance and all of our staff are CRB checked.

• We are required to keep a record of any medication administered whilst in attendance and you must inform us in writing if any medication is required to be administered.

• We are committed to providing a caring, friendly and safe environment for all of our children so they can participate in fun learning sessions in a relaxed and secure atmosphere. Bullying of any kind is unacceptable at our camps. If bullying does occur, all children should be able to tell and know that incidents will be dealt with promptly and effectively. Anyone who knows that bullying is happening is expected to tell the Mad Scientists.

and of course something dry to change into.

Whizz Bang Science - Goggles, lab-coats and an open

mind will steer you well in this day. Exploding stuff,

dribbly stuff, stuff that shoots in the air….it’s all fun and all

interesting. With what goes on you wouldn’t know but the

science bases are covered.

SNAP Hertfordshire Ltd (Special Needs Activity and Play) a holiday play scheme organisation which runs out of school provision for children and young people aged between 3 to 19 years has now introduced a new concession rate for parents/carers who are on income support which will be 10.00 pounds (instead of 17.00 pounds) per a child per a session (10am to 3pm) for the forthcoming Summer Holiday Play Scheme. Parents/carers wishing to think they may be eligible for this concession must provide documentation to show that they are receiving this benefit etc a letter from the Inland Revenue
