Family Cookery

The Family Cookery course was organised after consultation revealed that pupils, in particular, liked the idea of having the chance to cook with a family member. The focus of the sessions has been to encourage the children to get involved and each session has enabled our families to prepare a meal for the whole family for that evening. The sessions have been run by Janet Staerck, Food Technology teacher at Rickmansworth School. The school kindly agreed we could use their new Food Technology room too!

Feedback from the children:

"I liked chopping the fruit salad the best. I enjoyed making tea for everyone. It would be even better if it was longer (i.e. 6 weeks!). I would like to do a recipe with fish. And gardening too!"

"I liked the cooking and eating the most! There is nothing that would make it better. I would also like to do badminton and archery."

"I liked all of the recipes we made! It would be better if the course was 6 weeks long and included a chinese dish."

Feedback from the parents:

"No ideas for improvements- it was spot on! I would like to see gardening for children offered by Extended Schools."

"I would recommend this course to others. One improvement would be to give participants the chance to try other people's if variations cooked."

"The tutor, venue, facilities and handouts were all excellent. Would be great if it could be a 6 week course- and include other fast recipes e.g. Stir Fry, Sweet and Sour and even baking!"
