More 4 U @ St Albans South Consortium Directory
WHAT'S IT ALL ABOUT??!!
8 Schools have joined together in the area to offer a variety of activities and courses for you, your children and families to take part in and enjoy. There are 4 areas we are looking at, called the Core Offer and all Schools across Hertfordshire will be offering every part of the Core Offer by 2010.
The Core offer includes: Swift and Easy access to specialist services for children and their families; Good quality, affordable childcare and a varied range of After School and Holiday activities; Community Access to School Facilities; Parenting Support and Family/Adult learning.
Nikki Howes is the coordinator and helps to organise, support and signpost these events - some happen after school or in the school holidays.
We want to give you all more opportunities to take part in family events, give access to affordable childcare options and generally help to keep you and your family busy and active all year round!
Nikki really wants to know what YOU want to do or if you have any skills that you can help to run courses with. Recently we have done Family ICT, Family First Aid, Practical Parent Helpers Course, Family Craft sessions and lots more. Children have had the chance to take part in Basketball, Gymnastics, Multi Sports, Carnival Club activities and Circuit Training.

Some frequently asked questions................
What is the St Albans South Extended Schools Consortium?
There are 8 Primary Schools and Nurseries forming the St Albans South Consortium, covering two Childrens Centre areas, which have been chosen by Hertfordshire County Council to work together delivering the core offer of Extended Schools. Please see the Extended Schools Website for more details. There are 37 other consortia of schools across the County, including 6 in total in St Albans.
The St Albans schools involved are:
- Bowmansgreen Primary
- Mount Pleasant Lane Primary and Nursery School
- How Wood Primary
- Killigrew Primary and Nursery School
- Park street Primary
- London Colney Primary
- London Colney Nursery
- St Bernadette JMI
How will the St Albans South Consortium identify the needs in the area?
The schools will:
- Look at what they are offering already and identify gaps
- Survey parents on what services and activities they would like
- Talk to people in the community about how schools and other agencies can work closer together to benefit children and their families
- Drawn up a plan of action for the coming year
What new services and activities might be developed soon?
Please see Local Activities link for details of courses and tasters available near you.
Support and provide courses and taster sessions for Adult Learners Week and Family Learners Week.
We will be promoting a range of workshops, courses and out-of-school hours activities for all ages and abilities.
We plan to offer increased support to young people aged 10 upwards affected by separation, divorce or bereavement within their families and for pupils whose schools are under review.
We welcome suggestions and input from pupils and their families on any services they feel would benefit the community. Please contact us and let us know your thoughts.
Who will provide services and activities?
Schools are not expected to deliver these services and activities on their own but to work with external partners and providers – for example, the health service, the local college, private and voluntary organisations. For more detailed information please see the 'Find out more' button to be redirected to the Herts Extended Schools Website. The Extended Schools Consortium Coordinator (ESCO) is responsible for bringing together and coordinating the services throughout the member schools and ensuring that parents and children have knowledge of, and therefore access to the services.
Will the extended services be free of charge?
Some will be free but some will cost money. For example, specialist support services such as health advice will usually be free. But childcare and some activities offered after the school day will charge fees.
Will all the services and activities be available at all schools?
No. Parents and children will have access to different opportunities through their schools but not all will be held at their school site. For example, a breakfast club might be offered at one school but be open to children attending a nearby school.
Contact your individual school or check out our What's on? Where? page to find out what services and activities are already being offered.
How can I find out more?
The Consortium will produce a termly newsletter updating parents and other partners about the services and activities being developed. This website will also be updated regularly so check back.
