image of girls after a sports matchMany schools have been extending the services they provide to parents and children and by 2010 the Governments wants all schools to offer "extended services" for parents, children and the local community.

Tring Extended Schools Consortium is one of 6 extended school consortiums in Dacorum and all together we work with 67 schools. For more information on Extended Schools in Hertfordshire, look at www.hertsextendedschools.org.uk

Jargon

Sometimes schools and other services use jargon that seems incomprehensible!  The most common are explained below, with access to other sites for the more complex terms.

SENCO - Special Education Needs Coordinator. Usually a teacher within the school that is also responsible for establishing and implementing the Special Educational Needs policy.

CSF - Children, Schools and Families. This combines the Education Department and the Children and Families areas of Social Services to provide an integrated service.

CAF - Common Assessment Framework. This is a new way of working with children and young people. After an initial assessment an action plan is agreed with you to help you get the help and support you need.

TAC - Team Around the Child. A CAF will determine which areas need additional help, and regular meetings with the child, family and professionals will enable everyone discuss how the child and family can access the support they need.

EWO - Education Welfare Officer. This person works with schools, parents and children in resolving difficulties that lead to children not attending school.
